India’s Tech Transformation Accelerates: PM Modi Highlights AI & Digital Leadership at VivaTech 2026
Paris/New Delhi, June 24, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again put India’s burgeoning technology ecosystem in the global spotlight. Speaking at VivaTech 2026 in Paris — one of the world’s largest technology and innovation events — PM Modi emphasized that technology must be democratized to drive inclusive progress. He described India’s vision of AI as “All Inclusive,” underscoring the nation’s commitment to leveraging emerging technologies for societal benefit.
In the last decade, India has witnessed a remarkable digital transformation powered by innovation, entrepreneurship, and policy support. Half of the world’s digital transactions now originate from India, reflecting the success of initiatives like UPI, Digital Public Infrastructure, and Aadhaar-enabled services.
Key Highlights from VivaTech 2026:
Sovereign AI Push: A recent IDC-Dell study reveals that 96% of Indian government leaders are actively advancing sovereign AI strategies, focusing on data security and localized solutions.
Semiconductor Boost: The government announced a ₹7,100 crore incentive package to attract ₹15,000 crore in investments and create over 4,700 jobs in chip design, fabrication, and manufacturing.
State-Level Innovation: Maharashtra launched ‘Maha AI’, a secure AI hub for government tasks including report drafting, translation, and document summarization, aiming to modernize administration and create 1.5 lakh jobs by 2031 under the state’s AI Policy.
Challenges and Opportunities
While the sector shows strong momentum, India’s tech hiring hit a 28-month low in June 2026 with only 93,000 active openings, attributed to global uncertainty. However, experts remain optimistic as AI is expected to accelerate rather than replace jobs. India’s IT spending is projected to grow robustly, driven by cloud adoption, data centers, and enterprise digital transformation.
Major global players continue to invest heavily — Microsoft, Amazon, and Google are expanding AI and cloud infrastructure in the country, positioning India as a key hub for the next phase of global tech growth.
The Road Ahead
As India aims for a $30 trillion economy by 2047, technology remains at the core of this ambition. From quantum computing and semiconductors to fintech and sustainable innovation, the coming years promise unprecedented opportunities.
PM Modi’s message at VivaTech 2026 was clear: India is not just adopting technology — it is shaping the future of global innovation.
